As a music enthusiast and a parent, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that blend education and entertainment. So when I heard about Yamaha Innovation Road, nestled within Yamaha’s headquarters in Hamamatsu, I knew I had to visit. This place is where Yamaha shows its history and new ideas. Yamaha has been making music since 1887.
As I stepped inside, I was greeted by an ensemble of musical instruments. From pianos and guitars to marimbas and drums, the air resonated with melodies waiting to be played. The museum is set up like a journey. It starts with the Concept Stage and Prologue, which tell about Yamaha’s ideas and beginnings. Then, there’s the Manufacturing Walk, where you can see how instruments are made. It’s a mix of old skills, machines, and Yamaha’s care for quality.
In the Musical Instruments Exhibit Area, I got to play a very expensive grand piano. It felt and sounded amazing. This is something special that Yamaha offers.
The Life Scene area shows how Yamaha makes our daily life better with different products. The Digital Library and Acoustic Exhibition Area show Yamaha’s sound equipment.
The most exciting part was the Super Surround Theater. It has a big screen and Yamaha’s special sound system called “ViReal. It felt very real and impressive. Imagine sitting in a concert hall, surrounded by music. That’s precisely what the Super Surround Theater offers. My son’s eyes widened as he experienced the realism and power of live music. It was a magical moment.
At the end, the Innovation Lab and the Virtual Stage show Yamaha’s past work and new projects. There were live and virtual music performances. It shows Yamaha’s goal to always make the best music experiences.
My kids were drawn to the piano emitting rainbow lights. With each key press, colors danced, it was a harmonious play of sound and visuals.
At the entrance, as a measure against the spread of coronavirus, we say a disinfectant spray shaped like a piano keyboard. And at the lobby, a polar bear mom and cub posed for photos. Perfect for Instagram!
Going to the Yamaha museum was inspiring. It made me appreciate music and technology more. I think anyone who likes music and new ideas would enjoy this museum.
