A Fun Melon Harvesting Adventure at Kashima Harvest Melon Farm, Hamamatsu

Hello, fellow adventurers and fruit lovers! Today, I want to share with you an exciting experience I had at the Kashima Harvest Melon Farm in Hamamatsu. It was an extraordinary day filled with joy, laughter, and, of course, delicious melons!

We had the most incredible experience of melon harvesting at Kashima Harvest Farm in Hamamatsu City. As soon as I arrived, the sight of the lush melon vines excite me. With guidance from the friendly farmer/owner, I learned how to select perfectly ripe melons by their appearance. The feeling of gently cutting the sweet, juicy melon off the vine was immensely satisfying.

The farmer explained that in order to produce a good sweet melon, they would only keep one melon per tree. So if for example, the tree has 3 melons, they would get rid of the other two, so the tree can focus on growing only one melon, and it will be sweet, juicy, and delicious.

As we reached the Kashima Harvest Melon Farm, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. They were eager to show us around and explain the melon harvesting process, and which part to cut first. The farm staff was kind enough to share their knowledge about melon farming with us. We learned about the meticulous care and attention that goes into cultivating these luscious fruits. From planting the seeds to nurturing the growing melons, it's truly a labor of love. Farmer's interesting stories about melons are available only in Japanese, if you need an interpreter, Inhama experience plan provides interpreters (English and Chinese).

The farm's atmosphere was so peaceful, with vast fields of greenery stretching out before us. We visited Kashima farm on a weekday, and we were the only customer there. On weekends, the place is crowded with visitors wanting to taste their delicious, juicy melons.

As we picked the melons, we couldn't resist taking a moment to snap some pictures. The joy on everyone's faces was evident as we held the fruits of our labor in our hands.

After all the hard work, it was finally time to taste the fruits of our labor – literally! We gathered in a cozy corner of the farm, where the staff had prepared a lovely picnic area. Slicing open the melons, we were met with a burst of sweetness and juiciness that instantly won our hearts. Each bite was a delightful treat, and we savored every moment of it.

On their menu, and for the first time too, we got the chance to try melon with raw ham topping (nama hamu meron), also known as "prosciutto e melone" in Italian cuisine. You can try it for an additional price.

Melon with raw ham topping is a delicious and simple dish made with fresh, juicy melon and thin slices of cured ham. The sweet and refreshing taste of the melon complements the salty and savory flavor of the ham perfectly. To prepare this tasty treat, you just need to cut the melon into bite-sized pieces and place a slice of raw ham on top of each piece. It's an easy and elegant appetizer or snack that you can enjoy on warm days or special occasions. The combination of the sweet melon and the savory ham creates a delightful contrast that will surely satisfy your taste buds. Give it a try, and you'll discover a delightful flavor pairing that you'll love!

Visiting the Kashima Harvest Melon Farm in Hamamatsu was an unforgettable experience. It allowed us to connect with nature, learn about farming, and, most importantly, enjoy some of the tastiest melons we've ever had! You have to make a reservation for the melon-picking experience. But you can also stop by without reservation to buy melons or to eat melons at the farm. They provide a cozy place for you to taste melons.

In the back of the farm, the farmers are preparing strawberries so they will be ripe and ready to be harvested in Winter. I saw some of the plants already have tiny strawberries, but they said that winter strawberry is the best, and summer strawberry is not so so.
