As the Coronavirus pandemic is getting worse, people were advised to stay home. But staying home too long can be very boring. Therefore we need activities that can easily be done at home, some people bake and some people craft. As for me, I prefer rock painting.
Rock painting is a very easy and cheap activity that can be enjoyed by young and old people.
Rock painting is getting popular in Japan. It used to be old people's hobby, but not anymore. They even have a Facebook group for rock painting lovers in Japan. Members of the group would paint and then hide their rocks for other people to find. This is similar to the Kindness Rocks project, in the USA and Australia.
Here are some tips for beginners rocks painting:
- If possible pick smooth, flat rocks. You can paint any rock, but it’s harder to paint ones with crinkles.
- Wash the rocks before painting them. Remove dirt so that it doesn’t mess with your art.
- Cover the rock with white paint to help the colors that you paint on top appear more vivid.
- Use small paintbrushes or acrylic markers.
- Use acrylic paints for your rocks, they are waterproof. If you just started, I suggest you buy acrylic paints in 100yen shop. Then when you get into it, you can start buying the expensive ones.
Rock painting is fun to do, even if you're not an artist you can still write an encouraging message on a rock and hide it in a place for other people to find. You can also give it to your friends and family as a gift.
What important is to have fun while staying home and staying safe.
