Playing in the snow is always a fun activity for everyone. For us living in a place where snow rarely falls, we can still enjoy playing in the snow on a mountain in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Wonderland ski resort where you can see Lake Ikawa below and glide down the magnificent Southern Alps!
Riverwell Ikawa is a highland ski resort located at the southern tip of the Southern Alps, about 1400 meters above sea level. On a clear day, you can overlook the beautiful and magnificent Mt. Fuji, the mountains of the Southern Alps, and Lake Ikawa. The ski area has a gliding distance of about 300m, a width of about 130m, and an average slope of 8 degrees, and there is also a slope dedicated to sledding where children can play in the snow with peace of mind. The lift has introduced a conveyor type lift, making it a beginner-friendly slope.
In addition, summer skiing will open in April, and families can enjoy it throughout the four seasons.
You can also have fun even if you don't have a snow outfit and equipment, there is a rental shop at Riverwell ski resort.
When after all the fun you get hungry, check out delicious food in their restaurant. Riverwell even provides free wifi. The shop also sells snow gloves, goggles, and snacks.
At Riverwell snow resort, you can ski and sled for free. The parking area is free of charge too. You only have to pay if you need a ski lift, 1040yen/day for adults and 310yen/day for kids below 15 years old.
Roads may freeze or snow, and driving with urban tires is dangerous, so please wear chains and snow tires. There is no public transportation to Riverwell Ikawa Ski Resort. Large vehicles cannot pass on the roads via Prefectural Road 27 (Ikawako Miyuki Line) and National Route 362 Kawanehoncho.
This place is totally recommended because it's absolutely safe and kids friendly.
Because not many people know about this spot, so you can easily take Corona prevention measures and maintain a social distance.
Access from Hamamatsu: Continue on National Highway No. 1. Take Shin-Shizuoka IC from Shin-Tomei Expressway / Second Tokai Expressway to Prefectural Road 74 in Shizuoka City, Take Abe Kaido and head north on the Prefectural Road Ikawako Miyuki Line (Prefectural Road 27), then head north on the Prefectural Road Mitsumine Ochiai Line (Prefectural Road 189) for about 115 minutes.
